Three Summer Camp Experiences near Dayton

Camp Emanuel is designed to promote decision-making, team building skills, self-esteem, and an understanding of acceptance between all children. We provide an environment of trust, love, security, allowing kids to be themselves, learn, and have fun.

Day Camp

Day camps allow kids to experience all the fun while having the comfort of sleeping in their own beds at home. This camp is great for those that may have require a higher degree of need during the evening hours.

Resident Camp

Our overnight camp is a 1-week camp where kids will spend 4 nights in a cabin with a Counselor while enjoying all the fun activities planned for the day camp. Our campers love this experience and form deep bonds with their cabin mates with the additional after hours.

Alumni camp

A unique, adult-friendly 18+ aged camp for those with special needs. Many of our past campers return as Alumni to attend a great experience with fun events for both new and past campers with staff who can assist with their needs.

Why Camp Emanuel?

For more than 50 years, Camp Emanuel has been helping kids of Southwestern Ohio have fun. Established in 1971 by Dr. Mel Emanuel, an audiologist, designed the camp to promote decision-making, team building skills, self-esteem, and an understanding of acceptance between all children. Camp Emanuel has served over 1700 children throughout its 30-year history.

Camp Emanuel is a fully accredited day and resident camp. It provides a unique opportunity for hearing, language, and developmentally disabled children to interact with each other and other kids. Our staff include many professionals

a registered nurse
a speech and language therapist
Interpreters, counselors and certified educators in areas of elementary and special education
Dozens of volunteers including from local high schools

My name is Stacey Dennis. I am the on staff Interpreter. I have been involved with Camp Emanuel for over 15 years. Not only do I have the opportunity to be part of the staff, my children have participated in Camp Emmanuel as young campers, Counselors In Training and staff counselors. I enjoy watching the campers make new friends, enjoy new experiences and how to expand outside their comfort zones in a safe place. Participating in Camp Emmanuel gives me the opportunity to have the MOST FUN EVER during camp week and with some of the BEST Staff ever. I love having fun and making memories with Camp Emanuel!

My name is Robyn Ladson and I am the Camp Nurse. I have been the Camp Nurse since 2004. I started off as the Day Camp Nurse and would fill in for the Resident Camp Nurse when she couldn’t work it. Now I work all three camps-Day Camp, Alumni Camp, and Resident Camp. I enjoy working with the staff. We are like a family. My daughter went to the camp when she was younger and now she is 32 years old. My nieces and grand niece have also attended the camps. What I like about Camp Emanuel is the great opportunities that it offers children with and without disabilities. Camp Emanuel rocks!

My name is Emily Stiffler and I am an elementary school Intervention Specialist, and have been teaching for ten years. I have taught first through eight graders over the years. I have been with Camp Emanual since I was completing graduate school in 2012. I have a lot of fun working at Camp E and watching our campers grow and mature every year. I love the games we play and watching the kids smile and laugh. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. A fun fact about me is that a lot of my favorite movies have a redhead as the main character; redheads unite!

Hi, my name is Jillian Majzan and I started volunteering at Camp Emanuel during the summer of 2010. When I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Education from Bowling Green State University, I was officially hired as a counselor! Since, I received my masters degree in Exceptional student education. Currently for my full time position, I teach English in Middletown City Schools. I love spending time with campers in the summer and truly enjoy working with them all and learning and growing together!
